In 1703 a terrible famine fell on much of the Kingdom of Naples, in particular on the city of Taranto.
Don Diego Calò, noble tarantino, ordered a Neapolitan cartapestaio to build statues of Jesus Dead and of Addolorata to be used in a procession on the occasion of Easter and invoke protection for the city.
After four months of drought a plentiful rain began and still today the rite recalls the miraculous event. But what is the true meaning of the rites?
